Pittsburgh. I'd rather be a part of somewhere on the way than somewhere that's already there.

Little known fact. The last time the Cubs won the world series, Pittsburgh didn't have an "h" at the end.

Boston is one of the great cultural centers in the U.S. and that is important to me.

Preempting the inevitable defenders of Pittsburgh, the city does have one of the best natural history museums in the U.S. and the Phipps is very enjoyable. The art museum, however, is a second tier art museum. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is one of the ten best in the U.S. and arguably one of the five best. Boston has several other very good art museums.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Tanglewood, and more, elevate Boston's music scene well above that in Pittsburgh. I went to a Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert and was shocked to see that speakers were used on stage.

Boston is the best university center in the U.S., even trumping the combo of Pitt and Carnegie Mellon, and this is a strong selling point of Pittsburgh.

Boston has an NBA team. However, seeing the Red Sox play is a pain and tickets outrageously expensive. Many rate PNC Park as the best MLB stadium.

The culinary scene in Boston is far superior.

Boston is one of the nation's great history centers and has easy access to many attractions and nearby cities. It's on the ocean.

The big negative about Boston is the relatively high cost of living. Pittsburgh wins hands down in that respect. Boston also now gets massive snow storms, Buffalo-like, in many years due to climate change, with a warmer ocean generating ocean-effect snow in massive amounts.

If you're interested in a city with superior cultural amenities and a relatively low cost of living, check out Cleveland.
