San Francisco, then and now | US news | The Guardian
Everywhere the past 5 or 6 years, SF has come up. People talk about it more regarding everything. It seems like it dominates the popular culture and has an increasing global presence from what it had already. With NYC seeming like yesterday's new, LA out economically and Chicago suffering from violence bad press and finance problems has San Francisco becoming the number two city in america?

I hear more people talking about St.Louis.
Though I don't care much for what I'm hearing.

San Francisco, St. Louis, Birmingham Alabama. Those 3 are definitely in the running for the top spot.

No, its still New York by a very wide margin.

As far as number 2 tho, the Bay Area makes a compelling case as far as prestige on the world stage.

In what way? You could mayyyybe make the argument with Chicago (still don't buy it), but Los Angeles still has a huge amount of cultural importance (entertainment) that makes it very prominent.

And don't forget about the political influence of Washington. I think Washington is very easily more prominent than the Bay Area on a global scale.
