Like you'd even know them if I gave you their names.
Probably because you're making stuff up.
People just tag Houston as some boring club city because of their own ignorance. If you have ever partied in Houston, then you'd know Houston is not lacking in the club department.

Right! People from Atlanta come to Houston all the time to party and/or to visit, and they say Houston is similar to Atlanta and vice versa.
I'm one that says Houston is a lounge city. Not that there aren't any clubs there because there definitely are. But that Houston does lounges better than they do clubs and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Lounges are far more versatile than clubs. Some do turn into clubs. Some are just straight chill spots.

Agreed.
The OP is from Boston which has a lackluster nightlife scene for anything outside of bars and bar hopping (drinking in general), so all 5 of these cities will be so much more superior to that letdown (in my personal opinion - based off experience).
That being said, I agree with your premise. In my experience Houston is absolutely a lounge city, in fact I would say lounges define its nightlife the most of any of the other scenes (followed closely by drinking bars and hookah bars). That is not to say it lacks clubs or that clubs there are bad, they are not but they don't feel as energetic as Atlanta's nor as numerous (maybe its far more spread out).
Houston's rave scene is relatively weak (Houston's rave scene is comparably as weak as Boston's rave scene). That is probably its biggest weakness. Especially because its in a state where Austin (absolutely) and Dallas have more dynamic rave scenes and a more dynamic electronic music scene (or electronic dance music scene).
Houston for a Sunbelt city is exceptionally strong at bars. Awesome microbreweries and bars in general and they tend to be cute too, the ones in the Heights, Montrose, and Museum District in the single family homes with the massive outdoor seating areas and patios and stuff. I've been to 47 of 50 states in the United States and have seen more or less every major city and its bar scene for a Sunbelt city is exceptional. In terms of quality of what you're drinking, what is produced locally (as well as statewide), and of course abundance and concentration.
Houston, after Los Angeles, by far has the second best and largest hookah bar scene of these 5 cities. Attributed to its massive Middle-Eastern population but they're legitimately dope.
The OP happens to be into the club scene and rave scene, that happens to be Houston's achilles heel in the nightlife arena. Not to say that it lacks those or that its raves and clubs are bad and you can't ever find a good one. You can, but it doesn't really seem to stand out at all compared to most other large cities (especially on the rave scene - especially in its own state). It is okay, you can find a good one every now and then, but quality in abundance, as well as large concentrated corridors of nightclubs is its biggest drawback. Houston's lounges are dope though. I like it.

I think people are giving their 2 cents on Houston's nightlife based on their preference. Personally, I didn't even know rave scenes existed.
Houston's biggest strength is it's hip hop and R&B nightlife. A black Houstonian and a white Houstonian will have dfferent views on the nightlife. Many whites Houstonians that I know like Austin better, while many black Texans like Houston for obvious reasons.
Blkgiraffe, Gunion Powder, and I are blacks who currently live in Houston, so we give different perspectives from Red John. With that being said, we're always on the same page as far as our perspective.
