They combined San Francisco/Oakland MSA and San Jose MSA. Other than that one exception, the rest are all in MSAs.

Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) with the most Computing and Math Occupations, 2016:
01. New York: 280,900
02. San Francisco Bay Area: 251,000
03. Washington DC: 185,200
04. Los Angeles: 147,400
05. Chicago: 141,700
06. Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex: 140,100
07. Boston: 126,600
08. Seattle: 117,000
09. Philadelphia: 91,200
10. Houston: 84,000

These are the cities where tech workers live largest

San Fran, Seattle and Boston with the huge per capita numbers.

Coincidentally many of these are among the fastest growing major metros in the country. Wow, what a revelation!

The stat not shown in this thread but in the story lists the ten metros with the largest premium in salary over the average for the metro. While one can look at this as a boon for tech workers in those ten, it could also mean that non-tech jobs in those metros are on average crappy.
