I respect what the great lakes bring to the table and their beauty but I don`t care if they have 4,000 more miles of shoreline than the Gulf Coast. They are land locked for the most part and without stretching their shores they would all fit comfortably right in the Gulf of mexico.

I love the great lakes and beautiful blue waters that fill them but I could never see them as a true coast due to the fact that they are land locked. With that being said I hate jelly fish and sharks, the Gulf is abundant with them. I believe I could swim in the great lakes with a clear conscious rather than the Gulf.

Yes, definitely not sharks or jellyfish. The Great Lakes provide drinking water for over 40 million people, and that will become more significant as droughts take their toll. At least states that border the Great Lakes won't have to worry about spending the money for desalination...our water is in our back yard.

As a proud Great Lakes native, we simply are not in the same league as the two real coasts.

In Chicago, we call the Great Lakes the third coast for promotional purposes. The Great Lakes are paradise for 5 months of the year but it has none of the sophistication we Americans apply to a coast (outside of Chicago).

What isn't "real" about the Gulf Coast?

Are people really trying to make a case that the Great Lakes are more of a coast than the gulf?
