Also, you have to compare them within their own country since people can't just freely move from country to country. It's not like I can pack up and move to London tomorrow. And yes, Moscow has the most entertainment in Russia. Beijing has the most entertainment China. London has the most entertainment in Europe. Dubai has the most entertainment in the Mid-East. And yes, New York has the most entertainment in America. What a coincidence!!!! It's such a coincidence that the places with the most billionaires/economic capital of each region/country are the most famous and have the most entertainment and amenities!
I keep asking you to name the entertainment? You mention new york. Maybe people just have a different idea of fun from but I can tell you what I find entertaining about costa rica ,asian cities, dominican republic , aruba, etc, all really fun cities and places.

does new york have great casinos? nope
does new york have poker, sportsbooks? negative
beautiful beaches with warm water for year round sailing and diving? negative
beachfront and swim up bars with attractive women everywhere and ladies of the evening? negative
beautiful weather? nope
amazing beaches and fishing? nope
Lots of outdoor activities like rainforest tours, amazing hikes? nope

Overpriced broadway tickets to Cats or the Lion king?
Insanely overpriced mixed drinks and food ?
insane rents and hotel prices?
awful mass transit and lines everywhere?
bubba gumps and m and m world, starbucks, tons of chain stores and various superheroes running around times square?

You're being silly. Those places are for vacation, NOT for living. They're very one dimensional. No one wants to live in third-world Aruba or Dominican Republic. Whenever one has the strange itch to go visit a rainforest, they hop on a plane and travel. New York, London, Tokyo etc. are overall more fun than those places. That's the truth.

You're talking about your subjective preferences. 99% of people don't want to live in poverty-stricken Dominican Republic over the U.S.

If you value warm weather above all else, yes, some slum in the DR will be more attractive than Paris or New York or wherever, but most people have different preferences. Most people want access to good jobs, quality healthcare, clean water, culture, education, etc.

Of course, which is why people want to live in the U.S. and not the DR.

You were claiming the opposite; that people wanted to live in poor third world countries, as long as it was warm and sunny.

That is not what I said, we were talking about what makes a place entertaining, I just pointed out that you dont need billionaires and a really expensive/gentrified city to have fun. It is the exact opposite usually, most of these gentrified cities went from being very interesting to very bland. These comments about the third world lol , I would live in costa rica, aruba or thailand any day of the week over some boring overpriced american city

Of course not, but that has nothing to do with the conversation. People can theoretically have fun anywhere, anyplace, at any time.

The overall point is that billionaires tend to be located in the most desirable/exciting cities. They can live anywhere, and choose to live in the best places.

I can't think of a single city that went from "very interesting to very bland" as it gentrified.

Gentrification means economic improvement. It means more restaurants, galleries, attractions, nightlife, business opportunities, things to do. How does an city become less interesting if it isn't a crime-ridden slum? Gary and Detroit and East St. Louis aren't more interesting than gentrified cities.

That's subjective because for one Detroit is definitely one of the most "interesting" cities in the US (for better or worse). The other 2 you mentioned are small cities so they don't even count. And I've heard plenty of complaints about cities like NYC, SF, DC, Atlanta ect not being the "same". I seen some poster complain about NYC not having alot of megaclubs anymore and the nightlife in general is not as good, same with Buckhead nightlife district in Atlanta. I guess the complaints are, while their making the city better, their not making it better for everyone. Many people feel left out. Are the cities better? absolutely... but alot of people do find it "less interesting". I wasn't alive in the "Escape From NY" era but looking at NY movies and happenings from the 70's-00's time period it does seem more edgier and wild and overall interesting. But I would still rather live in this era NY vs that era of NY.

Detroit is not a particularly interesting metro. Yeah, it's somewhat subjective, but Detroit doesn't get many tourists or visitors, and millions of people are downright afraid of visiting, so, no, not interesting. Wouldn't be close to a bucket list, must-see U.S. destination.

Atlanta isn't particularly gentrified and I never heard it being considered particularly interesting.

NYC, SF and DC are heavily gentrified and are three of the most interesting cities in the U.S. I don't know anyone who thinks that NYC would be more interesting if it were poorer and more crime ridden, like in the desolate, apocalyptic 1970's.

Buckhead is a boring rich suburban part of Atlanta. Not sure what it has to do with nightlife in NYC.

There is FAR more nightlife in NYC right now than back in the bad old days.

Back then most people stayed at home at night, because it just wasn't safe. Nighttime subway ridership has tripled in the last 30 years. Neighborhoods like the Lower East Side were ghost towns at night; now they're insanely packed.
