South Dakota more expensive than Colorado. If that's the case, the place must be ultimate misery.

Also I think with CA being more expensive than say NJ is because the incredible cost of living in the Bay Area. LA has lower property taxes than NJ

Doing COL by state is pointless. There are places in New York State that are cheaper to live in than almost any other state.
