I think this one will have only so many cities/areas. This is considering the other Mecca thread that is pretty much about bigger cities.

The Triad and Triangle cities of North Carolina are notable in this thread. Most of the midsize cities in the Southern cities in Virginia, North Carolina, even Alabama like Huntsville is at the top.

If it wasn't swallowed up by the NYC metro in recent years, the former Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown metro would be another area that comes to mind(Dutchess and Orange counties). It had one of the lowest Black-White per capita income gaps for a top 100 metro, if not the lowest for one with a substantial Black population. It was one of the most integrated top 100 metros. Its Black median household income was above the national figure and around the state figure. It has rail access to NYC and a visible military presence in West Point. Its Black educational attainment for those 25 and older was/is above national Black percentage.

While it has some areas of the metro cities that are rough, you can find Black residents throughout both counties.

Again, another metro with a pretty strong military presence(Fort Benning). So, I wonder if that plays a part in regards to that ranking?

Other metros mentioned in that article like Augusta and Norfolk also fit that trend.

Given that military personnel have guaranteed money, that helps in allowing Black entrepreneurs to fill a need or even a want in that area.

I think so too.Prior military members do well with their own business.Id be willing to bet that more new successful business run by ex military are more likely to succeed longer,

I grew up in a military town and I can tell you that the black poverty rate is among the lowest in the state of Georgia outside of Atlanta metro.
I just dont recall seeing as many poor blacks as I do in other areas

Yes and another example is Fairbanks AK, where the Black median household income according to 2010-2014 census info is $61,099. To put that into perspective, the Washington DC Black median household income from the same period is $66,307.

Alaska's Black median household income is $55,897, which is about $2000 over the national figure and about $20,000 over the national Black median household income. Again, it has a pretty strong military presence in Fairbanks and Anchorage(median household income is $53,726). So, both of those areas may be good for Black entrepreneurs.

Another military area that comes to mind is Sierra Vista-Douglas AZ near Fort Huachuca, as the Black median household income is $68,142.
