Considering basic factors, like affordability, traffic, etc, as well as political progressiveness and especially working in the film/entertainment industry, which one might be the better city?

Atlanta. The film/entertainment industry is the clincher here.

Atlanta has a much better entertainment industry. It's more affordable. Even though the traffic is bad there, there is a really good public transit system compared to most Sun Belt cities. While Austin is very progressive, Atlanta is no conservative haven whatsoever.

The GO TO source for TV industry news in Atlanta is Rodney Ho's blog in the AJC:

The count of active or upcoming TV series and TV movie productions in metro Atlanta is 70 as of July 6, 2016.

Another vote for Atlanta!

Texas no longer has state-level incentives for the film/TV industry so there isn't much production in Austin any more.

Does anyone care to weigh in on the political progressiveness factor? Austin seems like it might be. Is Atlanta safe for the lgbtq community?
