What city do you feel is the next "big" city.. for example the following cities come up when you think big cities Chicago, NYC, Houston, LA, Philly, Boston.

Austin: never seen growth anywhere else I've been in America like we are experiencing here. Will it break out and become the next hub? SAN antonio to Austin along 1-35 is almost blurred together and I don't doubt Austin to Waco will be next.

Nashville: in a part of the country where it's not competing much with any other serious conteneded and hasn't seen growth continue. Already well known for its country music scene but will it take the next step?

Minneapolis: clearly an already big established city however doesn't get mentioned with many other large cities. Will it shake the shackles of its climate?

Denver: like Minneapolis Denver has a lot going for it in terms of location, and already being a well established city.

Phoenix: labeled and hated on by many however has a ton going for it- and truly is surrounded by spectacular scenery.

Portland: still very much in its youth.

Phoenix, Denver and Minneapolis do not belong in this thread. All have already arrived as "big" cities.

It's a two horse battle between Nashville and Austin, IMO. Both have great momentum right now. I"ll go with Nashville.

No way will Nashville outpace Austin. Austin's already bigger in less area and it's growing faster.

If Minneapolis isn't thought of as a big city now, despite its size, I doubt it will be in the future since it isn't growing that fast.

Aside from that, I will say Phoenix. It already is big, in my opinion, but it is also growing at a high rate. Same with Denver, although it isn't as large to start with.

Portland and Austin are, with those mentioned above, "big" in my opinion, having populations in their metros surpassing two million.

Phoenix is the 5th biggest city proper (re-overtook Philadelphia again based on 2014 census estimates) and 12th biggest metro in the country, shouldn't be on this list

What would city-proper stats have to do with anything?

Metro yes, but Phoenix doesn't have all the big-city trappings so it's a fair question.

Understand what I'm saying. When you think big city you think the cities I listed in my original post aka Chicago etc. by population many of the polled cities are "big" but have extremely large city limits and are not what many would consider a large city outside of population because of the amount of land it encompasses. The question is which city of of the ones listed would be more likely to end up being thought of as the next "hub" or a city that gets thrown around with cities like philly etc as being a "big" city.

Phoenix, Minneapolis, & Denver have "Big" city status. It's a battle between Austin, Portland & Nashville, and I believe all 3 will prosper.

I mean, Houston also has large city limits/metros, so I feel like you are talking about some sort of mixture?

Yeah but Houston is much more urban and is already considered among the ranks of philly, La, Vhicago and such. No one holds Minneapolis in that regard. Nor any of the cities I listed.
