To repeat: I didn't say it was "good", because it's not. Just better than a lot, and actually improving.

Are you really saying the LA system is objectively THE worst? Like, worse than Indianapolis's, Phoenix's, Houston's etc? Or are you just posting to complain about LA public transit? I suspect it's the second thing.

Like, people in Philly are always saying "f*** septa", but that's objectively one of the better systems in the country.
And even in NYC, complaining about how "awful" the MTA is is a popular conversation topic (not on c-d, but in real life).

No. I am saying it is a serious and valid contender for worst public transit in America.

It's great if you're communting between the downtown area and longbeach, or something like that, but if you're trying to get from downtown to the westside? Not fun.
That's not exactly true.

The map that rotodome posted is at least at 2 years out of date. Phase 1 of the Expo line was completed in 2012, connecting downtown with Culver City. Next year, phase 2 will open connecting downtown with Santa Monica. Doesn't get much more westside than that.

Also, you're aware that they've started the westside subway extention, connecting downtown with Beverly Hills, yes?

All in all, I fail to see how LA has the worst transit system. There are 5 metro rail projects currently under construction - more than any other American City. The bus system has 98% coverage of the 400 square miles of the city of LA. The combined metro + bus system is the 4th largest in the nation. Metrolink - the commuter rail system - is massive and growing aggressively.

One could certainly make the argument that LA doesn't have the best transit system in the country. But it'd certainly not the worst... Not even close. And in terms of rate of expansion, no other US comes close right now. LA County is practically keeping Skanska in business right now.
