Just about every city can be considered liberal even in the most conservative states. But what would be at the top of the list.

I'm sure the "liberal hub" which is San Francisco is #1. What's next? Portland? DC? Seattle? Boston?

Definitely San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. Maybe Minneapolis after that?

My thing is I find Boston very liberal, but in the same way that Chicago, NYC, DC, and Philly, which are liberal cities but I feel more moderate liberal. Part of it is those cities are so big, and such diverse populations. I think spots 4-5 can be any of the above mentioned cities.

I have a co-worker from Seattle (born and raised) who had some choice words about this topic and how he thinks a lot of people from Seattle are full of themselves on this topic.

SF, Seattle, and Portland are true liberal cities to their core.
After that it gets much tougher to distinguish.

The 3 most liberal states in this country are Massachusetts, Vermont and California.

I'd say San Francisco and Portland for large cities. Burlington, VT and Portland, ME for small cities.

I would say it goes likes this.

Tier 1 Majority Liberal
San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis

Tier 2 Very Liberal, but too diverse and big populations to be overwhelmingly
NYC, DC, Chicago, Philly, Boston, LA

Tier 3 Pretty liberal, but more democratic, than "liberal"
Denver, Austin, Miami, Atlanta, Detroit, Honolulu, Baltimore, Pittsburgh
