For LA, that'd net you Baja California and Las Vegas. That's pretty good.

Though NYC also gets Montreal in that distance and that's worth a good amount.

Anyhow, it's sort of senseless to keep on expanding this bit by bit--I think the question was more about just the local environs for day to day and easy daytrips and weekends. Wonderful.

Wow. I just realized NYC and Montreal are closer than LA and SF.

Well Los Angeles is for sure more diverse far as quality of life and day to day activities = beaches, mountains, etc

But NYC vs LA always boils down to the preference of whatever that person is looking for.

No right or wrong answer here.

True but both are very comparable distances.

Yes, yes it is.

You should be going to Montreal at least once a year if you live in NYC. Just saying.

I've never been.

I've always wanted to though. You're right. Hopefully I'll get the chance to go sometime soon. I'm already planning another trip to Vegas in a few months so it'll probably have to wait.

New York.

LA is a funny place, because the actual city proper of LA is an ugly dump, while places like Santa Monica, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, and the OC are fun, mostly nice, and very livable.

New York on the other hand doesn't need smaller satellite cities to make it great. Every borough is has good things going for it.

Why does someone in another Nation even. Go to such a extreme to lessen and demean a US city? Any one actually? If this was NYC vs a Canadian large city and some extreme negative general comment was made? You and others would call them a hater.

It is best never to try to use totally uncalled for negativity toward a city to mock it. You totally would call out such a comment if about a big city in your nation in some negatives far less general and pretty extreme.

Ugly dump is ridicules and totally uncalled for. Maybe there is a term for such trashing?

This is such a dumb statement. There are so many nice neighborhoods in LA. Holmby Hills, Bel Air, Hancock Park, Windsor Square, Miracle Mile, Wilshire Park, Wilton, Lafayette Square, Silver Lake, Laurel Canyon, Larchmont, Cheviot Hills, Beverlywood, Mount Olympus, Hollywood Hills, Palms, Venice, Griffith Park, Windsor Hills, Fairfax, Westwood, Laurel Canyon, Hollywood, Studio City, Pacific Palisades, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Wilton, Country Club Park, Angeleno Heights, Mclaughlin Park. Castle Heights, Encino, Beverly Park, just to name a few. You don't know what you're talking about. Glendale? Burbank? Those cities are cool, but there are so many LA neighborhoods I'd rather live in than those cities.
