Couple smaller Northeast cities seeing 10 year murder high or few seeing 1990s. South and MIdwest seeing a lot more than Northeast.

Manhattan is at 41 compare to 35 last year(without pickup truck indent it would of been 33)
The Bronx is at 65 compare to 94
Brooklyn is at 102 compare to 120
Queens is at 44 compare to 45
Staten Island is at 11 compare to 20
People don't realize just how much of a success story the Bronx is, a huge reason to NYC's overall decrease is the Bronx. That's a rate of just 4.4/100k. This is with the Bronx also having some of the poorest zip codes in the country and has a very high minority population and immigrants. Debunks many "theories" stat junkies have about these conditions.

Very interesting. I did not notice this. So it seems like it’s basically the West coast and (most of) The Northeast seeing declines?

As a local I can’t even beleive how far the entire city has come even from just the 90s. But yeah, The Bronx especiallly. And as low as that is, it’s still the highest rate out of all 5 boroughs.

Note: It's nearing dangerously close to that number this year, with more than 100 homicides so far in Nashville – that number includes murders, but also (justified and accidental shootings.)
Official homicides exclude Justified, Accidental, & Police-related in our country. But unfortunately it did go up again and now at 97.

Pittsburgh (just the city proper---not adjacent towns with Pittsburgh zip codes that sometimes skews things) is at 54 homicides for 2017 as of yesterday. We have hit 60 the past few years. Looks like we'll be right around on target for that number again this year.

54 homicides in a city with a 2016 estimated population of 303,625 gives us a homicide rate of 17.8/100,000 residents.

We have work to do. What's sad is that nearly all of our homicide victims annually are African-American males. I'm not sure if this is the case in most cities, but we need to do a better job as a society of providing opportunities to men of color and/or helping them to take advantage of those opportunities.

The homicide victims being black is generally to be expected in larger communities with poverty stricken areas. On the flip side, homicide victims being white occurs in smaller communities. Of course there's a mix of both & either in certain locations.

Yeah, and this appears to be happening in mostly cities that have had a struggling economy since the decline of industrial jobs.
