Having every city be melting pots with evenly proportioned demographics - not only is it highly unrealistic, it isn't actually as "diverse" as people think; it creates conformity. Ironic, I know.
America is 63% white, and society's lens is very white. That's why majority white cities are seen as most favored (Seattle, Portland, etc.). Where do Detroit and Cleveland finish on these lists?

Its a white dominated society. Like we need more white majority cities. Boring.

Give me Miami or New Orleans any day over Portland.

I'd rather live in Seattle or Portland then Detroit or New Orleans any day and I'm a minority. It's not a concern of which race is heavily represented in any of them, its a quality of life, lifestyle and career decision.

Atlanta is currently at 25 murders based on the stats on APD website. This is down 24% from last year YTD. Assuming the same rate continues, Atlanta would finish under 75 murders.

Pittsburgh is at 18 homicides now for 2017 after an overnight shooting in the city's East Hills neighborhood.

Not sure what population estimate we're using to calculate the rate, but if we go by the 2015 estimate of 304,391 that makes the rate about 5.9/100,000. It's about on par with Washington, DC. I believe this is the second-least-violent start to a year for Pittsburgh in terms of homicides over the course of about the last decade, but I'll check her stats later. The city has been gentrifying quickly over the past few years, so I suspect the city's homicide rate will continue to stabilize or decrease as the suburban rate increases.

Thanks for replying. I'll try to chime in as often as I can to update the number for Pittsburgh since my colleague actually keeps records on each homicide for Federal UCR purposes. Pittsburgh's a unique case because our city limits don't make much sense, and there are 129 suburbs in Allegheny County alone, probably 1/3 of which use a Pittsburgh address.

In 2016, cops in Queens, NYC investigated 62 shootings through May 7. Through the same period this year there had been only 13 shootings — a 79% drop. Murders down 37% in The Bronx overall nearly 20% in NYC
