MY guess is Seattle MSA will add 70k when it the metro estimates come out next month. Seattle city will add about 16k. This is between July 2015-2016 btw.
Seattle is down slightly mainly due to previous years being so strong. And a lot of this year-to-year comparison has much to do with timing...when a permit is granted, when a project is started/finished. A better look would be a 5 or 10 year period.
NYC's real estate can and will take a pause every so often. But that just makes the next ROAR all the bigger. Nimbyism is going to be a very, VERY big thing in NYC in the coming years, as it already is in Boston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Fear Not....
Caling NYC 'down' is like calling the Sun 'down' because it coughed up a sunspot.
They can build all the BIG TOWERS they want all over some godforsaken city and call it THE BALLS.
It will seem like i'm disrespecting (London) or Taipai or Wherever. You have the right to be insulted.
This is going to sound even more condescending (hopefully, and everyone has the right to feel condescended)... but whether NYC needs to grow significantly to maintain status as the World's #1 City State has yet to be proven, imo. At least in the short term of my lifespan, and probably your's if you're honest. Are you?
NYC will always kick everybody's ass in EVERYTHING and you will like it.
NYC doesn't need to compete much to be great, or the greatest.... on any scale, IN ANY CATEGORY about much of ANY thing. it's the center of EVERYTHING that will ever matter.
And if some other place some day, some how surpasses NYC, it still doesn't matter a hell of a lot.
Because how many skyscrapers and supertalls can you waterski behind?
i live about 228 miles east northeast of NYC. i can see it from my window.
There's only 1 Gotham City,
and then, there's everyone and every THING else.

Baltimore City has 4-5K housing units under construction (depending on which list you look at.) That is a ton for a slow growing (some say still declining city) but just a handful compared to fast growing city. I'm still not absolutely sure Baltimore City won't a show population loss this decade. None the less, significant construction in the city has managed to suck some momentum out of Baltimore suburban growth.
Yes, but just by volume added stats. Other cities can catch up as seen in this somewhat deceptive chart. By that, I mean the totals will vary from year to year, but strong totals over several years are important. Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Washington, Boston and Seattle seem to be doing well in this regard.

Well I'm glad to see Northern cities like DC and especially ---> Chicago doing well. Chicago is on LA's shirt tails. As a city with winters that is - far from taking a back seat.
