Yeah there is a ridiculous amount of overlap between Raleigh and Durham. People from one go to the other all the time, they share an airport, etc. I am still kind of surprised they split them up.

DC and Baltimore are really connected as well.

And San Francisco and San Jose are also very tied together.

For being so far apart New Orleans and Houston have a fair bit of connection, but not on the same level as the ones above

I'd say Richmond is more connected with DC than it is with Norfolk.

Windsor and Detroit are seperate metros that happen to form one major urban area. As much as they are similar to eachother, the differences are even stronger. Also Windsor has its own suburbs much like Detroit has, albeit on a much smaller scale.

How is Detroit even remotely connected to Indy? Where did you get this idea from? I haven't heard of any significant migration between the two! Detroit and Toledo I can see!

Perhaps this is why:

"Which 2 major cities, atleast over 200,000 in population and NOT in the same metropolitan area (but can still be close together), are most tied together? By tied together i mean: similar cultures, somewhat tied economies, high migration rates to and from both cities."

That goes for Tampa-St.Pete as well. IMO it also disqualifies Miami-Ft. Lauderdale.

Exactly, the weirdest MSA split in history. There's no reasonable explanation I've heard as to why either.

Yes. Seems a lot of people are skipping over that here.

Richmond isn't really connected to either on the same scale the other pairs are.

I'm from Richmond, haven't been to DC or Norfolk in over a year.
