This is city vs city, and Fusion is the only Toronto guy posting.
Get over it.
If you don't like city vs city, get out of the forum.
Canadian cities are North American by design, but there is a Canadian twist on how they are planned and run. It is interesting to compare them to sister American cities, in this case Chicago and Toronto.
In Chicago you have beautiful grand buildings with some of the best architecture on the continent, but you drive down Michigan ave in the afternoon and its relatively deserted.
In Toronto, the lakeshore and south core are almost entirely residential highrises, consequently you have entire communities of people organically living their lives in the shadow of the CN Tower.
This is the primary difference between the direction Canadian cities are taking vs. their American counterparts sans NYC. Nonetheless there is still no comparison between asian cities.
This thread is going off on a tangent.... but had to reply.
Really, no one says Chicago's downtown street pedestrian traffic is Manhattan wild. But of all streets to bring up to -- still try to diss Chicago for something. Choosing Michigan Ave. Its Core downtown street? Is just wrong. N Michigan Ave has its premier shopping street and in the Nation too. Then it goes past Millennium Park the busiest tourist sight in the Midwest US. You then hit the Art Institute of Chicago a top Art museum in the world. ---> TO CRY THIS GRAND STREET IS DEAD IN AFTERNOONS.
WHY?
Again this downtown Chicago is LOW on Residential high-rise/Skyscraper living too along its lake COMPARED TO TORONTO? GETS REDICULES.
WHY? You never saw Chicago's Northern half of downtown NORTH of the Chicago river and its GOLD COAST BEYOND?
* Leave out Chicago lessening for any insert you can add to a thread that you must do!
Downtown residential Chicago -North of Loop residential downtown to Gold Coast leaves it in distance.
DavePA what is the current population of DT Chicago and what area does that represent? I think a lot of people just assume the loop alone is DT Chicago but is there an 'official' designation?
Lake view, Lincoln Park, Logan Square, Hyde Park, Greek town, Ravenswood, Edgewater are nice .The closer to water and Chicago Loop, River Front areas the better it gets. Chicago downtown/midtowns area way smaller Midtown/Lower Manhattan
18.3 miles from Edgewater Chicago to Woodlawn that big city
but 32.2 miles from Woodlawn Heights in The Bronx to Coney Island, Brooklyn in NYC or 46 miles from Eltingville Staten island to college point Queens that insane.
