QOL: San Diego by a country mile. It is a laid back beach city.
Economy: Probably Vancouver. It is one of the major cities in Canada.
Nightlife: Vancouver. San Diego has way too many dudes. I blame the military bases.
Scenery: San Diego.
Daytime activities and events: San Diego.
Shopping/entertainment: Vancouver.
Transportation: Vancouver.
Overall vibe: San Diego.
Crime Rate: Vancouver.
I scored this one for Vancouver, but I would still prefer to live in San Diego because of the weather and the beaches.
Vancouver's scenery is hard to match in North America and certainly San Diego is not up to it.
Vancouver is beautiful off course, but San Diego's scenery is no slouch at all. Mountains and canyons all over the city, palm trees everywhere, cliffs on the coastline, etc.

They are not a match for the spectacular mountains bordering Vancouver.
quality of life - both have good QOL, just a choice between a SoCal lifestyle and a PNW lifestyle
economy - if judged by unemployment rate, San Diego is slightly better (3.7 vs 4.5%), though both are roughly full employment economies
nightlife - I'm in bed by 9:00 so I have no idea
scenery - both are beautiful places, cities backed by mountains. The mountains surrounding Vancouver are more impressive but SD has an beautiful coastline.
daytime activities/events - Likely better in SD given the better weather.
shopping/entertainment venues - Amazon works in both places so the shopping is the same.
transportation - About the same.
overall vibe - Very subjective much like QoL.
crime rate - almost exactly the same in both cities.
Vancouver's mountains are amazing, but they look nothing like that in person. I do agree that they win for more dramatic mountains, but much of San Diego is built practically on mountains which I find to be very eye catching as well.
This goes to Vancouver for me. Beautiful, fun, dense, easier on foot. Seems far more sophisticated. Much better downtown with great parks nearby. Love the pulse of the city. One of my all-time favorite cities.
