You really have to go out of your way to find a rough area in Boston and even the hoods are well populated with retail strips and no striking blight in the residential areas surrounding them like in other cities.

This is a traditional retail strip/area in "The hood"

48 square miles is extremely small in comparison to most US cities. Not hard.

Why bother leaving out DC at 61 sq. mi.?

Took two more pictures yesterday I think give a good view of the cityscape. I tried to get a couple you could zoom into. Mods, let me know if you don't want to post the raw images before deleting. I will resize them if it is an issue.

if we're talking strictly urban cores, the only US city that beats chicago is NYC.

Philly is coming a long way. Having a more residential core all along was a big plus to gentrify too.
Chicago still wins for reasons in scope and grandeur added to the vibrancy you want in a core adding much to its core residential living plus warehousing areas now Loft living and its high after NYC high-rise to skyscraper living.

Philly for number of residents?! No, that's been going around the internet but it's BS. SF, Chicago, and Toronto for that.

How come NYC wasn't included? I'm very curious how that would have ranked had that been included.

Man, these are really awesome pics! I love all of the different varieties and styles of row houses Philly has. I can't wait until I'm in the city again to explore all the development going on! These live shots show just how urban Philly's core really is.
