I've seen other numbers with Peoria on top, but it's never a blowout.
Wow! I had no idea that Rockford metro was bigger. I stand corrected. I guess it just never seemed to be any bigger than Peoria. Peoria seems much larger because the lake seperates the two counties.

Soooo I guess that'd be 300,000:0
I seriously don't know what the 2nd biggest city in Hawaii is, if anyone could find out that'd be great
I believe it is Hilo...
I'm not positive, there is a huge gap though...

Texas and California will have the smallest Gaps, Greater Los Angeles and the Bay Area are huge...
Texas is the only state to have 3 cities that exceed one million city proper.
although the San Antonio metro is small for its size.

the gap in MD cities is large, Baltimore with 640961 and Frederick with 57907, but many areas around DC such as Bethesda(90,000+) and Silver Spring(130,000+) are unincorporated which skews the numbers

What's interesting is that Aurora is may be number 2 in population, but is otherwise the number 1 city in the state.

In South Dakota, the first largest city is Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls is over 150,000 people right now, up from 123,975 in 2000. The second largest city is Rapid City, which is around 65,000 people, up from 59,607 people in 2000. As a rule of thumb for the past 20-25 years that Sioux Falls is twice as big as Rapid City, but actually is a little more when comparing city limits but about twice as much when comparing metro areas. Both cities have been doing well since 2000 and had healthy growth, althoughn Sioux Falls and its neighboring bedroom communities have been growing at a faster clip than Rapid City.

Aberdeen and Watertown are the third and fourth largest cities. Aberdeen is around 24,000 people and has been stagnant for the past 40-50 years but has been growing more in the past year or two with additional economic activity. Watertown is above 20,000 people and has been growing steadily in recent years.

It is interesting when you compare the #1 and #2 city in a state. Some States like New York the #2 city doesn't stand a chance. 8.2 million vs. 290,000. While others, like NJ, the the top two are so close to each other: 280,00 vs. 240,000.

The funny thing with NYC is, it is made up of 5 Broughs that used to be independant from each other before 1898. So, if the 5 Boroughs never had came to be. NYS largest city would actually be Brooklyn.

Brooklyn: 2.5 million. Queens: 2.2 million. NYC ( Manhattan ): 1.6 million. Bronx: 1.3 million. Staten Island 475,000 Buffalo: 290,000.
NYC would go from being the largest city in NYS ( and America ) to the 3rd largest in NYS.
