I mean raw number of dudes and there's a good chance you will run into the same people as NYC is geographically small.
How though? NYC is so densely populated and crowded. There are far more bars and restaurants on a single street in Manhattan than in most of DT Austin. It's just flooded with people. I'm sure if you stuck to the same 5 bars, you would run into the same people. But that's by choice in a place like Manhattan. That's not even including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, etc, which makes the city limits of NYC about the size of Austin proper. Then there's the densely populated northern NJ cities of Jersey City, Hoboken, etc.
It's just more inevitable in Austin to run into someone you've met, even when you're trying not to. Now on the flipside, Austin is more personable because it feels more like a town than NYC. It's easier to get to know the regulars and bartenders, so that can be a positive.

If I have a bad date in Cedar Park, I'm just gonna chill in San Marcos or Bastrop going forward.
I'd actually suggest Chicago of the three. It is still large enough that you will have an 'endless' pool to date, but small enough where people are more eager and willing to commit. Now, this is anecdotal, but from what I've heard from my friends and family who reside in NYC who are of your age, dating is difficult because the pool is so large that passing exchanges often lead nowhere and many people are deceivingly only interested in one night stands. I mean this happens anywhere, but I hear the frustration is big in New York because this mentality is inflated there. Austin has a smaller and more transient population than Chicago. Good luck.
