That is tough to answer, but both of those OH areas are twice the size of the 2 NY areas as well. So, that adds to complications of the comparison(s).

I think this will come down to what you are looking for and is important to you.

The Cleveland MSA has actually had the weakest population growth since 2000.

Cleveland -89,299 -4.2%
Buffalo -33,255 -2.8%
Rochester 15,496 1.5%
Cincinnati 184,252 9.2%

Interesting numbers. Is this growth due to actual people moving there or is this just the result of cities annexing a bunch of areas?

It's MSAs so probably not annexation as annexation of counties to an MSA don't generally happen unless the metropolitan area is booming.

Cleveland clearly is still the weakest in this category.

Just curious about Cincinnati’s numbers, but where is most of the growth occurring in that area? I ask because it is different from the 3 other areas in that it is a multi state metro area and in turn, a good portion of the growth actually be occurring in KY and IN.

Although not officially counted in the MSA numbers of Buffalo, the adjacent Niagara Region of Canada showed a 3.83 per cent increase between 2011 and 2016, or 16,542 more people. Niagara growth has tripled in the last five years, and has had an influence in business and retail in Buffalo. Nearly 500,000 Canadians live within just a few miles of the Buffalo MSA.

Are you suggesting Canadians cross the border to shop in Buffalo/Niagara Falls? Is that true? lol

Have you been to Downtown buffalo? Probably 1/6-1/5th of the cars have Canadian license plates
