Not really. Chicago doesn't resemble NYC and Atlanta doesn't resemble LA.

LA is dense, old, Hispanic/Asian, dry, NIMBY, beachy, overcrowded, etc. Atlanta is none of these things. Chicago, too, doesn't share much with NYC besides both being big U.S. cities with big skylines.

I agree that neither is a "mini-NYC/LA" but I think his overly generalized point was referring to development patterns. NYC and Chicago are both Northern, classically urban cities and LA and Atlanta are both decentralized Sunbelt sprawlers (although LA is fairly dense due to geography).

OK, from that perspective, I agree, but then basically all Northern cities and all Sunbelt cities can be grouped in that manner.

I really don't feel Atlanta and LA have many similarities outside of being decentralized. I mean, Tokyo and Mexico City are highly decentralized too, does that mean they resemble each other, or resemble Charlotte and Atlanta? "Decentralized" is just a term for a relatively unimportant downtown in a regional context; it doesn't imply strong similarities, IMO.

This is why I said it was an "overly generalized" comparison. But all of the cities mentioned are generally regarded as the dominant cities of their respective regions in America so that's probably another reason for the comparison/analogy.

This is awesome... someone from the South talking about annoying Illinois/Wisconsin accents. Oh my. That is priceless. Thanks for the chuckle.

Yeah, I feel like we're all supposed to be in love with the southern accent, but for me it's my least favorite in the country. Has zero to do with how I feel about the south or the people there, just do not like the accents from the region at all.

I feel like we are all supposed to accept northern accents as a gift from God setting the tone for true intellectual capabilities, dissension from pretense, and a barometer for popular judgement, but for me it's my least favorite in the world. Has zero to do with how condescending and dismissive the people are there, just do not like the accents from the region at all.
