Which US cities on this list, have the most neighborhoods with these unfortunate characteristics, in late 2018--

*Abandoned homes and apartment buildings
*Vacant lots
*Unkept parks, street maintenance, and overall upkeep
*Impoverished areas without access to local grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants
*Crime ridden neighborhoods

Most cities with these characteristics will be those that have lost the most population, most likely. But, other cities may also have a larger amount of these neighborhoods than they should, due to other reasons.

I haven't been to a lot of the cities on the list so I don't want to cast a vote, but of the cities I have been to, Buffalo seemed to fit the bill pretty well, as do many upstate NY cities large and small. When I lived in Atlanta, a lot of the "bad" neighborhoods didn't seem nearly as bad as the stuff I was use to. Even in NYC now, there's so much gentrification going on that it doesn't really feel as crime ridden as I'm sure it was when my parents were living there.

This was a hard one being that there are many cities i have been to that are on and not on this list that fit that bill. The thing about the south is you have a lot of suburban blight or areas that will fool you while up North you tend to find you have a better idea what you are getting yourself into. This is a hard one but I'm going with B-more!

Very interesting thread.

I know having lived in St. Louis, there are a lot of blighted areas and DT isn't impressive but improving. At the same time the city is pretty clean and free of litter. Very little graffiti. Parks are well kept and the city is very green. For the most part freeways are up to date with modern intersection. Public transit is generally clean compared to larger systems in larger cities.

Chicago also has run down areas but the city once again is very clean. Definitely functions looks and feels like a world class city in many ways. There is graffiti and some of the trains are dirty but that can be expected of a core city for a region of 10 million people.

I guess I don't know how to answer the question.

Interesting--I need to visit St Louis. It's been about 25 years since I've been.

Gotta see what's changed.

Any Rust Belt in the US will have apocolyptic urban decay. The only difference is how much. Detroit is much worse off than say, Pittsburgh or Buffalo.

It has changed a lot. Some areas are more blighted on the north side. Some areas has been totally transformed for the better.

The energy of the people has changed. Definitely a lot more transient and laid back. There is a real good sense of place now.

Definitely a small big city feel.
