The recent uptick in crime the past year or so is alarming, but the majority of at least the homicides are East of the Anacostia River which is still not "fully gentrified".

Does anyone know of per capita rates are calculated based of census estimates or census counts?

I wonder if the government shutdown is going to affect the crime rate this year. Some people might think it's like "The Purge".

Good question. I know in the 2018 thread I clarified I was using the 2017 population estimate for Pittsburgh when I did the calculations.

I would imagine the FBI does their official rates from the official 2010 U.S. Census?

What's that supposed to mean? That they (federal workers who are on the average better educated than the average American) are more prone to crime because the President has shut down the government and they are sadly forced to work for free and face financial ruin if this thing lasts forever? Dumb comment, sorry.
