Kudos to mass for being the pioneer.

Then you got things like Blue jeans, fast food it took a state like California to create something like McDonald's winch has had unbelievable success. It's a shame they moved to Illinois, but this was when Chicago was a more important city.
Its because they moved to Illinois that McDonald's became national. It was going nowhere in San Bernadino. Chicago has been at the lead of national chains, McDonald's growing Chipotle when it was small and under McD control, Potbellys going national, and now Portillo's going national. Smaller chains like Pizzaria Uno, Giordano's, and Lou Malnaiti's are alos going national as well. Chicago has always been a leader in food, whether it was Twinkies, the Dove Bar, candy, restaurant chains or whatever.

I will admit thay as far as culture, the days of Oprah and Michael Jordan had it much more in the public eye than today. I think that Seattle has had more influence than its size with Amazon, Starbucks, and Microsoft. San Francisco as well with Silicon Valley.

I'm happy to live in a city that isn't a trendsetter, LOL. You guys can test drive all the new ideas. When we see things that worked out ok for you, THEN we'll join the party! And by the time we join in, everything's less expensive. Win win.

It still started in California like many many other things. It doesn't seem like creativity is flowing in Illinois. It's ok NYC is loosing influence as well. Lol

We would all be better off to avoid "trend setting" cities.

Social influence these days comes mostly from media sources (cable news, cable shows, personalities, newspapers, even radio programs). Those are the real influencers, and they touch all across America (even in small remote towns). Even if you don't listen to them, other around you do.

I for one feel no influence from the many cities mentioned in this thread. Hundreds and thousands of miles away, out of sight, out of mind.
