People don’t want to admit it, but Washington is extremely influential with Social trends! Whether we like it or not. And just to be clear I’m not necessarily saying that it’s a good thing... but you can’t deny the influence it plays on all corners of the country on a social level.

Of course it does. It’s the control center for the most influential, prosperous, and greatest country in the world.

Could you give an example? Thanks!

MAGA and those ugly red hats as of recently for one thing if you want a specific + current example.

Again, not saying it’s necessarily always a good thing.

Politics in general also have a huge effect on Social Media and that isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Especially in today’s times there’s no escaping it. How many times have you found yourself in or overhearing a political conversation between friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances, or even strangers. It even happens here on this forum all the time.

Those aren't examples of DC initiating social trends.

Really what would you call it then? Seems like politics, especially federal politics + what happens in Washington have a tremendous social effect on the country.

Trump is from NY and he made MAGA a thing before even winning. And sure politics has social impacts but that's a nationwide thing, not a DC-specific thing.

I have to disagree. Federal politics is a Washington animal, and social impacts are certainly a nationwide thing. Policy decision on areas such as housing and the enviornment made in Washington affect the entire county; so did the decision to shut down the government that affected 800,000 directly and millions indirectly. Makes no difference if the guy is from NY or not.

that's a bit silly, although the example for DC is embarrassing, but it's the same concept of famous fashion designers not being from NYC or having started there but are based there now and is a part of NYC's brand/culture.. same for entertainers in LA/NYC. People say drain the swamp but draining the swamp would be sending the government folks back to their home states.
