What I hate about New Orleans is how there really aren’t any standout suburbs of the city. Memphis does have a name, but the crime and weak job market isn’t any good. Birmingham has its fair share of problems, but it is starting to take off and come into its own. It really is a great city

Because New Orleans is a dump. It’s a unique city, and certainly has its appeal and pluses. However, a city in which to visit vs a city to live in is two different things. New Orelans is definitely a place to visit and experience and I’ve done so multiple times.
I could easily live in Greater Birmingham. New Orleans? Not a chance in hell.

No but it could hit by another major hurricane this year, or the next, or the next. It's already in a precarious geographic location and that in itself, among other things, gives people and companies pause when it comes to locating there.

Yeah, unfortunately New Orleans is not poised to grow or is not setting itself up for success for economic growth all that well.
The state of Louisiana struggles with attracting businesses to the state on the whole, so that does not help New Orleans future growth. Add in the rough areas and poverty outside the CBD, French Quarter and tourist spots, and it's not a city to move to/locate to for economic opportunity for the masses.
Birmingham could go either way, but it struggles to diversify and struggles to shake free of the civil rights issues of its past..
Memphis is the best choice of these 3, since a boom is already in the early stages there. Plus the state of Tennessee does a great job promoting the state for economic growth, and Nashville and Knoxville have benefitted the most. Attention is now being put into Memphis, and developers have already started noticing and investing $ there.

Are the Birmingham suburbs that much better than Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell?
