Inspired by the thread of the current state capitol and state house buildings. I know every state probably doesn't have an OLD state house/capitol, but I thought this could be a neat discussion and a learning moment (I don't know all the states that do have an OLD state house/capitol building. Which are your favorites?!

Hawaii's is the most plain, boring, ugly state house I've ever seen. Kind of ironic, given how amazingly beautiful the rest of the state is.

I agree!

But this thread is about the OLD state houses and capitols that are now museums or part of college campuses etc.

Hawaii is a special case. It's only had two state houses in its history. The first one was the Iolani Palace, which assumed that role when Hawaii became a state. But Iolani Palace was not built to be a state house; it was built to be the royal residence of the monarchy, back when Hawaii was an independent country. But if you want to count Iolani Palace as a former state house, I would definitely put it in the "good" category.

The old one(Iolani Palace) where the legislature and state government initially used right after Hawaii first became a state, is better IMO. And yes, you can tour the inside of this building, if you want. https://www.iolanipalace.org/visit/tours-admission/

I agree the current capitol building, is meh.

You're more than welcome. As Sony said, the public can tour Iolani Palace; it's a museum now. IMO, it's well worth it, as it's a beautiful building with an interesting history. The current state house is close by (right next door, if memory serves), so you can easily see them both in one visit, if you should find yourself in Honolulu.

I'm biased but Louisiana had the only State Capitol built like a castle. With turrets.
