I think that Washington is most unique because of its city planning, laws regarding building heights and its purposeful formality and feeling of power and strength. There's no other major city in America that is like Washington, DC.
i'm sorry, but the poll is ridiculous. for new orleans to have less than half of all votes makes no sense. people don't truly understand the concept of unique if NO doesn't automatically pop in their head as the answer
Only in New Orleans do they dance with a casket. Even random people in that crowd had trumpets. They had a HUGE 2ND line for Soulja Slim when he was murdered. What a unique city. No doubt BOUT IT(see what I did there)!!
Again, I just pointed out that Mobile DOES have a similar history and customs, its just smaller and not as well known.
Of course there are differences, New Orleans for instance is on the Mississippi River and parts of the city are below sea level (!), while Mobile is on its bay and has a WWII battleship, the USS Alabama as a war memorial.
As for speaking French, how many born and bred Americans in New Orleans actually speak French? I am not talking about Creole or rural Louisana as a whole (where some Cajuns still speak French) but in New Orleans.
It was a long time ago but I don't remember much French talk. Actually any French at all. Its not like Montreal. And I am not talking Creole.
How do you know that quite a few speak French? Are you talking in NO or the rural areas? Any idea what the percentage is?
Even if they speak Creole, it's still a unique language in the US(not Miami or New York recent arrivals Haitian Creole).
