I haven't been to my choice of San Diego but I have been to Seattle where it rained everyday for the two weeks I was there and it was bonechilling cold. I like being outside in weather I can enjoy.
Both great cities, but I voted for Seattle. SD's weather is almost too nice. Without true seasons, it's hard to keep track of time as the years go by. Also, I think the city of Seattle is a bit more cosmopolitan and it has better outdoor recreation opportunities (of course, SD is nothing to sneeze at for outdoor fun).
those 2 are totally different. Seattle has an almost european vibe, lots of culture museums, pikes market, walking/take the bus everywhere, that weird communist/socialist neighborhood. SD is malls and shopping and the beach and driving everywhere. What lifestyle do you prefer?I'm a SoCal girl, don't like NYC or SF and I love the mall. If you like urban cosmo cities, you'll like Seattle much more.
Seattle has a somewhat undeserved reputation for having bad weather, and that seems to be the trait that people bring up the most when Seattle comes up in conversation. So weather wise, San Diego would probably be most people's choice. However, there are other things to a city besides the climate, so it comes down to what you prefer. Leighland has it pegged pretty well, Seattle is much more urban, and probably offers greater cultural amenities as well. San Diego is more laid back and suburban. And don't listen to Tony from Europe, he is a Croation that has a bizarre obsession with California and has never set foot in the pacific northwest.
While Seattle is great and I miss it, the weather sucks, sucks, sucks. I lived there and in Portland - I know! It's not 365 days of rain, but it's dreary. Summer lasts a month. There are only two seasons: early spring when it's wet and coldish, and then the 2-week stint of summer. So, for that alone, San Diego gets my vote. If it weren't for the weather, I'd still be in Seattle.
Seattle is more artsy intellectual, and perhaps feels more urban. But, like others have said, the skies are grey for at least 9 months of the year, which tends to bother some people. Great city, but not everyone will like the weather (it's actually a pretty mild climate...except for the constant cloudiness and drizzle).
San Diego is BEAUTIFUL. It doesn't have a super-urban feel, but there's still plenty of things to see and do. Lots of attractions. Considered on of the nicest/safest cities of its size. 365 days of beach weather (which may seem "boring" to some).
Seattle for the social climate and landscape
San Diego for the weather climate and beaches
Both for the political perspective and laid-back people
I just couldn't bring myself to voting for just one because both cities appeal to me for different reasons, and I would like to live in both cities as a soon-to-be college graduate (and hopefully do so in year from now).
