Jackson, MS? I really don't think many people are faced with this decision around here. It's not even on our radar.

Default hard to compare

It is very hard to compare Chicago and Jackson due to the difference in population. Chicago is a world class city and Jackson is much smaller.

I know Jackson has its share of problems and many folks do consider it undesirable and prefer other Mississippi locations (such as Oxford and Hattiesburg). I think this is largely because the later two locales I mentioned are University towns.

The first decision is do you want to live in a large city (Chicago) or a much smaller one such as Jackson. I would also suggest you read the many postings on the Mississippi forum about Jackson.

Good luck.

I know Chicago is much bigger, but I was asking would you like to live in the big city atmosphere (Chicago) or the small town atmosphere (Jackson).

I suppose alot of people continue to raise their children in Chicago. The others probably move out to Chicagoland suburbs to raise their families as it's a close move. I for one can't imagine a life in the south. It's just too different of a lifestyle.

Well two years ago I moved to Lexington after 57 years in Chicago. But Lexington is semi-South and is a college town and has a large number of Yankee transplants who came down here years ago to work for IBM.

Lexington is a nice town with good bookstores and coffee shops, some decent places to eat and some local culture. It's a tolerant town with many Gay and interracial couples in evidence. The weirdest thing down here is being around so many Protestants, Hell, I never met a Protestant until I was 15 years old, everybody I knew was a Catholic, Jew or Orthodox.

Lexington has a gorgeous hinterland and is a good jumping off spot for trips to Florida, the Gulf coast and Outer Banks.

Ahhh, I'll probably be back in Chicago in a couple of years anyway.

I'd live in Chicago. Jackson, MS has been emptied into the west side!

Are you talking about the "Great Migration" here? Most of those old Mississippians are dying, and their grandkids are ruling the streets over there now...
