Chicago Wins! Been to New York, meh ALOT of small buildings only the Empire State Building stood out.
1.Chicago
2.NYC
3.Miami
"ALOT of small buildings" Yeah, right. New York has five times more tall buidling than Chicago and simply dwarfs Chicago with its skyline.... It's not even one but several distinct skylines. It's a matter of scale: New York skyline is so huge only the supertalls stand out..
And Im willing to bet those people dont know a dang thing about EITHER skyline, just going on what theyve seen in the movies, right? Come visit Chicago sometime, its not hailed as the best architectural city in the nation for nothing. Also, Chicago's skyline is more balanced, NYC's is all jumbled up, not very appealing other than its size. There are too many sections of the skyline that are low, with highrises only on the ends of the skyline, looks kinda weird and unbalanced. See what Im saying?
I think that is why a lot of people are attracted to New York. The skyline is gritty.
Pittsburgh over Philadelphia? Absolutely pathetic.
I've been to Pittsburgh and the skyline looks nice from only one angle...from the west or southwest. But in all reality, Pittsburgh skyline is much smaller as a whole and nowhere near as full looking as Philly's. Not only that, Philly has better architecture and the city's tallest buildings are way more attractive looking than Pittsburgh's tallest. I have absolutely NO idea why anyone would choose Pittsburgh over Philly.
No offense to Pittsburgh, it is a nice skyline especially from a 300,000 city, but over Philly? Please.
I think Miami's skyline has become more and more impressive in the past few years and it has an amazing setting by a tropical sea that adds to the beauty of it. Dallas also has a very impressive skyline with modern buildings. I personally never REALLY liked the New York skyline though its much prettier at night. I personally prefer glass towers to stone and cement but thats personal preference. Los Angeles also has some cool buildings.
MPLS' skyline isn't very dense, but I like that it's very symmetrical. The 3 largest towers are 56, 55, and 54 storys I believe. It's best to look at the skyline from kind of a distance because it looks like it peaks in the middle and slopes outward to the 10-20 storey condominums in fringe neighborhoods. Also, the river and the green trees as backdrop and foreground are a nice touch.
With that being said, Chicago is better than NYC IMO, but that's just because I've been to Chicago over 20 times and I've never been to NYC. From pictures NYC looks rediculous. I really want to go there so I can see it myself. I really really hope I get to visit it some day.
Also, I think that Chicago is so cool with the lake, and the layout of the skyline. It's dense, but at the same time it's very long and spread out. The biggest towers are anchors for the skyline, it's awesome.
