I truly believe the most overrated city in the US that I've actually visited is Las Vegas for sure! It is an extremely poorly planned city because the sidewalks have too many cracks and uneven pavement exists. And also, the gambling in Vegas leads to lots of social problems. It is just a city that I cannot really enjoy anymore other than the good food at the various buffets. Overall, Las Vegas is a city that I consider to be highly overrated and lacking in real culture IMO.

San Francisco is underrated. Everyone thinks its all dangerous but it's only the 108th most dangerous city in america

It sounds like you're confusing San Francisco with Oakland. I've never come across people talking about how dangerous SF is. Most of the stigma I hear gets applied to the East Bay.

As for ratings, I believe SF is right on par with its rating. It's neither overrated nor underrated. It delivers and deserves all of the hype it gets.

I disagree. SF is a beautiful city, but it's not that large or bustling compared to cities like New York or London. Given its hype, one would expect a lot more things to see and do in SF than there actually is.

Also San Fran. How/why do people compare a place with barely 150 years under its belt, with any east coast city.

NYC has more character in one block, than the whole city of SF.

It's even funnier when people start comparing or even equating SF with major European cities.

And for those of you who say history doesn't matter. Go to London, Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Venice, or Istanbul, and come back to the States and try to say that again.

If you're not into gambling, drinking, shows or partying, then there's not much reason to go to Vegas. It's a one-trick pony.

Only one East Coast City surpasses San Francisco as a place to visit, work and live.

Virtually every visitor survey in the WORLD places San Francisco either at number 1 or 2 among US Cities.

Methinks you suffer from a bit of envy.
