Out of the places I've been, everywhere besides places like Philly, New Orleans, NYC all seemgeneric. (Cookie cutter Company Chains everywhere and sprawl) From where I've been I'd say the most overrated places are Houston and Atlanta. Houston looks like a giant New Orleans suburb (it's just cleaner). Atlanta is a giant suburb/country (I mean it's pretty and has a lot going for it, but it lacks urbanity)
Like I said everyone has an opinion about other citys so Basically the whole USA is over rated and tired if i could move somewhere i would move to CANADA or some other country to many issues in america. This city is better than that city. All these opinions really dont justify whether a city is good or not any city can be great its what you make of it
L.A., Atlanta, San Diego and Orlando are all overrated IMO.
NYC, Boston, San Fran are slightly overrated.
Chicago, Seattle, Miami are about where they should be.
Philly, Dallas, D.C., New Orleans are underrated.
boston. Holy crap enough with boston. People there suck. Cold, malicious, apathetic. The weather also sucks and seriously, no one would give a f#@k about boston if the old "underdog" red sox haven't been doing so well. Waaaaaay overrated. The city is also very racist (e.g. Southie busing crisis in the 70s--no, not alabama in the 50s, massachusetts in the 70s + red sox being last team to integrate) and overall very uninviting--especially to people who aren't of the like-minded aloof, parochial boston/"new england" mold.
I totally disagree. "People there suck" is an unqualified and generalized statement. The weather is not ideal, but its not unbearable. I like having the four seasons. And people would not care about Boston if it weren't for the Red Sox? Very untrue.
As for the racism charge, I am tired of it. Judging from my direct experience, Boston is not racist. I admit its segregated, with most of the minority population living in their own, less wealthy and more crime-ridden areas. However, that is true of most large cities, and the attitudes of races towards each other is not bad.
And I don't know why it would be branded as uninviting. Of course people aren't running to greet you as you walk down the street, but they don't do that anywhere else either.
Because the desire of certain posters to trash Atlanta is apparently inexhaustible.
To be fair, this is in the General forum and your beloved Atlanta, inside the city limits of which you apparently don't live*, is competing against 11 other cities and "other" and it's still on top.

*how's that for grammatical acrobatics?
Yes, I live in a suburb of Atlanta...about 3 miles from the city limits. I suppose that completely disqualifies me from having an opinion on this subject.
