I agree, other then Miami Beach the rest of the Florida beaches are the most boring beach enviroment I have ever seen.

California beaches because of the variety. Florida beaches are boring and one-dimensional. Lakes, ponds, Florida beaches.....they're all the same....waveless and sterile.

For swimming? Florida. Nothing beats the sand in Clearwater Beach or Pensacola Beach. Maybe the black sand beach in Hawaii, but other than that? Nothing beats the soft sand or the clean, clear water.

Everything else (surfing, bodyboarding, etc) California.

Can't do that in Florida. California has several places with waves like this (Maverick's, Ghost Trees, Cortes Bank). Though to be fair, I can't do that at all.

My point is, Florida is great for relaxing in the sun, swimming, snorkeling, etc. The coastline in California is more dramatic and awe-inspiring. Maybe it's because I don't like the heat or humidity, but I prefer a foggy, restless coastline. I can however, fully understand somebody preferring the beaches of Florida. Different strokes for different folks.

Florida, without a doubt, is way better. Why go to the beach if you can't swim in the water????? Who want's to have to squeeze into a gross wetsuit just to go swimming? Uggh!

For hanging out on the beach (bonfires, camping, parties etc.) California beaches are better. For actual swimming, it's Florida hands down.
