I have lived in both, but I'll have to go with St. Louis, it's twice as big and offers so much more!

I like both...

I live in St. louis, its bigger... Greater St. louis area is pretty big (spread out)... Memphis Beal St. is better then St. louis nightlife, but St. louis has more options... The delmar loop, washington ave, the landing, soulard, the groove, and several spots across the river in Illionis - Sauget, Alton, Edwardsville (within a 30 min drive)...

Memphis has the perk of being 20 mins from Tunica. but St. Louis has 6 or 7 casinos all within 45 mins of one another (if u are into that sort of thing) -Right across the river, 15 mins from downtown are all the strip clubs, more than 20 of them.
There is also a Horse Racing Track in State Park (another 15 min drive)

St. louis probably has more jobs and overall "looks nicer then memphis" but Memphis is cheaper.... food is better in memphis...
Memphis just seems more poor when you are there, but has a charm to it.

... I like to travel locally and living in st. louis... you are a 4 hr drive from Memphis, 4 hours from Chicago, and 4 hours from Kansas City... which is cool

Memphis reminds me more of KC than St. Louis.

I really like Memphis. Its definitely one of my favorite Southern cities but I would probably have to go with St. Louis on this one, simply because its so much larger with so much more to do. Climate wise though I prefer Memphis. I actually like the warm, steamy climate of the Mid-South.

After living in both I choose St.Louis.

Other than beal street tourist destination and strip clubs that's all Memphis has.

St. Louis has several vibrant neighborhoods Central West End, Soulard, the Loft District and many others.

Food is better in St.Louis. There is a lot more variety.

The economy provides more options in St. Louis.

The list goes on.

I've lived in both. St. Louis hands down. The only things that Memphis does better than St. Louis is that it has a much nicer riverfront and it's ahead of St. Louis on the streetcar front (although St. Louis has a legit metro system so that kinda overrules). St. Louis is simply in a different league than Memphis so I'm not sure it's fair to compare them head-to-head since STL would probably win in virtually every category.

Memphis? Yuck.

St. Louis wins pretty easily.
