Los Angeles defines what is "cool" & probably the word "cool" originates in California. LA is where the celebrities live & enjoy life [movie stars\ athletes\ youth culture]. Surfing\ skate boards\ extreme sports all started here. A kid in NYC goes on a date on the subway - that is not cool. A LA kid drives in his convertible down Pacific Coast Highway with great radio & clubs to stop with his date or just hang out at the beach - that is cool.

The East Coast & Midwest are old & stuck in customs. The West Coast is young & fun & care-free. Cool is Los Angeles not Chicago [or any other city east of the Rockie Mountains].

I'm sorry but those people on The Hills are not cool at all. Driving around in your daddy's BMW complaining about how you didn't get what you wanted is not very cool at all. Uber posh clubs filled with pretentious people is not cool. Rich people in general are not very cool, people just think they are.

IMO the cool people are the ones still in the middle of the crowd jamming at the concert. They are the ones who know about all of the underground spots of the city. They're the ones who know of the best hole in the wall restaurants.

Los Angeles is a cool city, but it doesn't have a lock on it. NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, etc are all cool in their own ways.

The cool kids don't live in Hollywood, Midtown, Lincoln Park, or South beach,

What you write is correct or at least I agree with you. But being "cool" means style & having an opportunity to be "cool." You mention concerts & clubs [both are in abundance in SoCal - ie. recent annual Coachella Valley 3-day gathering in Indio].

When people list cities they consider "cool" but don't identify why places like St. Petersburg are cool means that it is merely a list of someone's favorite cities. To not include Los Angeles on anyone's list of "cool" cities is just being childish

LOL at this whole post. unlike in LA, when we go on dates we have the city as our playground. Running the streets going to clubs or party. running around with the celebs as if they were just some stranger on a bus. The coolest Neighborhoods in our city are located in lower Manhattan, Harlem and Brooklyn. It seems very non open minded to say the subway is uncool, especially being in NY. When i was on a date with like 2 other people on dates we took the subway,Bus, and Taxi. We had fun on the subway. Its like its own world of free. Sometimes we blast music from a radio or something we had. Its much more cooler here when you big concerts and events that happen here. Also there easy to get too. We have beaches and whole bunch of amusement parks in the area. We could go hang out in Times Square, SoHo, TriBeCa, The Village.
