I live like 10 miles from downtown chicago and if I stand on madison ave. I can see the skyscrapers base.
No hills in the way.
Chicagoland is really flat, I am amazed it just extended forever basically on a perfect grid. There seems to be longest straightest flatest roads I have ever seen in some ways, (maybe Phoenix)
Most cities have a Flat Downtown, because hey are in A river Valley. But as you go further out from Downtown, the Hillyer it gets. Exceptions are San Fran (not in a river valley) Atlanta (ditto) and Pittsburgh. Some cities have a few hills Downtown but they arnt as Prevalent.
Also Providence is overlooked, it has 3 hills that Ring Downtown, Smiths, Federal, and College, all are several hundred feet high.
Providence is an interesting one... Never thought of that one. Never been there. How's Boston by the way?

Cars Sliding Down Icy Road in Pittsburgh. - YouTube If you think driving in ice on a flat street is bad.... I had to drive down my hill (which is steep but not this bad) that morning and I didn't have any trouble getting where I had to.
