Hmm. Im VERY sure the CDC is VERY important, but bow down?? The largest medical center in the world. People all over the world travel to TMC. It's one of the worlds premiere hospitals. Yes CDC is important to SUDDEN outbreaks of disease in the world, BUT most of the problems and sickness such as, cancer, aids, ect are affecting most. And TMC is VERY important to those matters. Like someone said earlier Texas Childrens Hospital, and other treaments in TMC are VERY important to the US. Im not saying that it's the ONLY US hospital, and everywhere else sucks, because some people might try to rearrange my comments and make me seem like a jerk andcall me out, BUT im just saying TMC is A if not THE premier southern medical center. And I agree, Houston is probably NOT the most visited southern city, most likely it's Orlando, and ATL i somewhere up there also. By the way I heard there building a EAgames studio in ATL. Anybody heard about it?

TMC and CDC are actually two very different institutions. I'm not sure who started the comparison or why, but they don't really compare. Even the combination of Emory Healthcare and CDC is only about 1/3 the size of TMC. CDC may be more recognized worldwide, but TMC's international reputation brings a large number of international patients...so it has some global recognition too.
CDC is a U.S. government agency located on Emory University campus in Atlanta, and its main focus is research related to global disease control and prevention. CDC has a staff of 15,000, and together with Emory Healthcare employs 25,000 in 7 hospitals and clinics.
TMC is a collection of hospitals, clinics, and medical schools that focuses on patient care and treatment. It consists of 13 hospitals and dozens of other health-related institutions, and has a staff of 75,000. If all of the hospitals in Atlanta were clustered together on one campus, it might be as large as TMC.
Exactly. Im not downplaying CDC or Emory, BUT I was just saying TMC's importance is INCREDIBLE. And it's internationally known. You basically summed it up.

Atlanta comes the closest. It also brings together the Southeast, the Inland South/Southern Midlands, and the Deep South. It sits between the different regions of the south. And it's not overtly south for being in the Deep South. In some ways it feels more heartland like St. Louis than Deep South like Birmingham or New Orleans.
