well your wrong houston is the largest city in the south, and is just as southern as atl. houston is almost an extension of louisiana so i would have to disagree with you on that i dont think there is a good pick. you can argue a point for every city to be the capital of the south. but i refuse to say atl no disrespect, houston is in the category of the la, nyc, and chi. so how do you slight a city with such a prestige.

Houston is not as Southern as Atlanta. It does not have the genteel nor the charm like Atlanta. Atlanta will always be the big city or the center of the South. It's not the same thing as capital of the South. But Atlanta has a much larger impact in the region as opposed to Houston. Also, Houston is on the level of Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Philadelphia, and Detroit. It is not on the level of NY, LA, and Chicago. LA and Chicago is not even on the level of New York if you want to get technical.

Well, I'm looking at it from the outside world. People outside of Houston, or Texas in general think different than me and you. People see Houston as a city in Texas, not the south. Houston is a southern city, but I doubt it is more southern than Atlanta.

The debate seems to never end as to whether Houston and Dallas are 'southern' or 'western'. I think that Texas has such a clearly defined identity it tends to be separate from either region in many peoples' minds.

Very true, LD. But just again to reinerate, when given a choice of regional affiliation apart from an independent "Texan" identity, a definite majority of Texans choose "South" and "Southerner" over "West" and "Westerners."

As I have said (countless, I reckon! LOL) times before, I consider myself both Texan and Southern. And see no contradiction nor identity issue with the same.

I'd ask you "How so," but that would be fruitless.

Everyone doesnt have to except what you beileve. Everyone is intitled to there on opinion. you cant justify whether there opinion is right or wrong. Some beileve there on the same level and some dont . But just because you dont believe its is dont make you correct. I would never put houston on the same level as NYC LA or Chicago I think Atlanta Dallas houston Philly go together
