That title belongs to the Miami. ATL has never been known as NYC of the south. Maybe Detroit of the South.
Oh yes it has. Just because YOU have never heard it doesn't make it true. New Orleans and Charleston in the 1800s were also called the New York of the South.
Georgia has been known as the "Empire State of the South." That's why there's a miniature Statue of Liberty on the Georgia state capitol.

ATL is known as "Black Mecca" and lots of rappers and rnb artist come or go there to get in the business, just like Detroit in the 50s and 60s. Not speaking of the Detroit as of Today.

I've heard the same thing about Houston, but I don't take it serious and go around as if it's something to be proud of. I'd rather Houston be 'Houston of the south" than New York of the South, I find slogans like that corny.
Besides how the hell can you be New York and Los Angels of the south, that makes no sense.
Miami cant compare to Atlanta. Atlanta has a lot of educated folks, you all have upper class, middle class, lower class... you all have blacks, whites, small hispanic population, asian, indian, etc...
Miami is either super rich, or 3rd world country-ish. Nobody speaks english and people are rude as hell man!

Nonetheless, you were wrong when you said "ATL has never been known as NYC of the south." That's all I was trying to say. I'm not here to defend the appelation, just to set things straight.
Frankly I don't think it's much of an honor to be called the "New York of the South" either. And I think it's downright insulting to call a place the "Los Angeles of the South" too.

If Atlanta did not exist the aforementioned cities would still be booming metros. Atlanta you are began to drink the Kim koolaid from the Housewives of Atlanta.
New Orleans is exempt because it has and still is influencing every city in the South with its culture. It is the grandpa city of the South.
