I think I went to the Delmonico's in Utica. I go there almost every year because I have lots of family still there. Joey's is my favorite. Cavallo's used to be amazing, but I think something happened. Maybe the head chef isn't there any more...it just doesn't taste the same. Still unbelievable compared to most cities including NYC and Chicago, but for Upstate, it's not that good. The Franklin Hotel in Rome, NY was rated to have the best Chicken Riggies. For those of you who don't know what Chicken Riggies, you are a deprived group of people. Just visit the Utica/Rome area and order that from almost anywhere. That has to be my favorite thing in the world.

Joey's Restaurant: Fine Italian Dining. Utica, NY

New York City has to win by default. In fact, there are very few cities that can top NYC in ANY type of cuisine (maybe New Bedford MA in terms of Portuguese, Miami for Cuban, San Francisco for various Asian cuisines, etc... but not too many).

That being said, Providence is excellent in terms of Italian food. Boston is very good, but Providence is in the same ballpark and is about 1/3 the size. Al Forno is often rated one of the best Italian restaurants in the nation and the authentic Italian stores on Federal Hill (one of the few TRULY Italian neighborhoods left in the country) are tough to beat. Providence deserves consideration as one of the top few, that's for sure.

North Beach Pizza is disgusting. Tony's Pizza in North Beach is the best pizza I've had outside of Naples.

I wouldn't go that far with that remark but it is probably the best Southern city when it comes to Italian food. The only city that really competes with the Northeast when it comes to Italian food is Chicago.

I have to disagree.

San Francisco and LA for Asian including sushi. Every major California city has better Mexican than nyc. Detroit has the best Greek and Arabic food.

There are many kinds of cuisine that other cities do better than nyc.
