Live in the Northeast.

Midwest: Chicago or Madison WI
South: (what you can't tell is I've been sitting here thinking for a few minutes, LOL), let's say Charleston. There are a few places in the South I haven't been to so I had to choose from what I know.
West: San Francisco

I live in the East TN mountains and I love it here. If I had to move I would choose the NE first VT, NH, or Maine. Second- maybe Oregon or Washington. Third- Iowa seemed really pretty when we traveled through. I prefer small towns to anything that even resembles a city.

Places or areas I would avoid at all cost- The south- I can't handle the heat and humidity. Any desert areas- everything just looks brown and dead to me.

If that were the case, Id put the whole of Chicagoland exactly where Eureka, California is today.
And I would steal Chicago away from you and move it on top of Hudson or Bergen counties in NJ. Give those people 24 hours to evacuate of course. Take a moment and imagine the Chicago and New York skylines right across the Hudson river from each other! Lets see if Conde Nast still thinks that Sydney, Australia and Capetown South Africa are the world's most desired tourist cities after that. Eat your heart out Sydney!

These are my choices from what I think now. There are alot areas of the country I have never been before.

Northeast - live here
Midwest - (Gold) Chicago (Silver) Minneapolis (Bronze) Milwaukee
South - (Gold) Charlotte or Asheville (Silver) Atlanta (Bronze) Dallas or maybe Houston
West - (Gold) Seattle (Silver) Portland (Bronze) San Fransisco

Special Mention for I am interested and need more info: Cleveland (any chance of a comeback?), Chattanooga (surrounded by mountains?), Spokane (northern Idaho mountains nearby?)
