I think Louisville has moderate gang activity, even though the police chief and mayor think Louisville is today's Mayberry.

If you drive in some parts of the West Side all the teenagers are wearing blue shirts. Cross one street and suddenly all the teenagers are wearing red shirts. I've heard that the areas just east of Downtown is a Crips area and the West End is a Bloods area. Supposedly a gang war started when a East End housing project (Clarksdale) was razed and many residents were moved to the West Side, thus putting dozens of Crips in Bloods territory. L'ville had 30 more murders than usual the year that Clarksdale was leveled

North St. Louis, East St. Louis, and pockets of South St. Louis have ample amounts of violent gang activity.

Parts of Norfolk, VA have gangs. Park Place, Norview, Ocean View, and Little Creek areas of the city are known for gang activity.

Agree. I'd say Chicago is home to the biggest, most organized gangs in the country. The FBI recently rated the state of Illinois #1 when it comes to gang members per capita, at 8-11/1K I believe.

One area you would not think about is Northern Virginia but Northern Virginia has the highest concentration of MS-13 members outside Los Angeles. Maryland (closer to DC) also has a high MS-13 population along with other gangs and cliques.

Unfortunately I'd have to say Chicago too.

I was unaware that gangs were such a problem in Chicago when I first moved here. You here about LA from the media. Even NY often times. Since Chicago is not a media magnet you don't hear much about the gang problem here.

Gangs are so much part of certain neighborhoods that its just understood and not even mentioned.

It says something when two of the largest gangs in the country (bloods and crips) can't even get a foothold in the city.

Actually some do. But the majority live in working-class/middle-class neighborhoods, like mine. I rarely see anyone with tattoos on their faces.
