The only fun I had there was walking a very long distance to the super market at some strip mall.
I don't think that is what the OP had in mind as far as "Worst Small City".

Um....why has no one mentioned Holyoke, MA. By far the worst small city I've ever driven through. Pleasantville, NJ is pretty bad too.

Out of those I haven't been too, from what I hear I'd say:
Benton Harbor, MI
Muskegon Heights, MI
East Chicago, IN
Highland Park, MI
Homestead, FL
East St. Louis, IL
Saginaw, MI
Belle Glade, FL
Chester, PA
East Orange, NJ
Hot Springs, AR
Alexandira, LA...
Have to be among the worst.

Count Yuba City/Marysville,CA as well, horrid places.
WORST I have been though was Fort Morgan,CO.
Surrounded by the flattest,dry-est,smelliest (literally, like burnt popcorn mixed with diesel fuel and it is PUNGENT) country in America. It is just a crappy place IMO, Eastern Colorado as a whole is again IMO the most boring place in the country, you'd be surprised how much nicer Nebraska and Iowa actually are once you cross those state lines. The slightest hill and green grass and scattered trees when you cross into Nebraska makes you want to get out and kiss the earth.

yakima WA -------it looks like the removed a small city in mexico and stuck it in the middle of WA
coos bay OR--------meth capital of the west coast per capita
golden co---------the coors brewery makes the entire town smell like $#@
port orchard WA -------ghettoooooooooooooooooooooo!
uereka CA-------ghettooooooooooooooooooooo!

I'm pretty sure compton CA is over 75,000 but I will say that it makes all of the towns I just listed look like a five star resort!

I spent some time working in Bullhead City, AZ & Casper, WY and found both to be pretty lousy. Not necessarily crime-infested and certainly not in decay, just bland and unappealing.

I found the mention of Durango, CO very funny. That's one of the places I'd consider moving if I won the lottery - I love SW Colorado.
