I was there a couple of months back and agree, easily larger, more massive, taller, all of the superlatives, no doubt! I was also intrigued by the architecture.

But when referring to recognizability - I think SF has the upper hand, especially internationally. I think at the very least it's a fair statement to make.

Oh, yeah I think SF is more recognizeable also, wasn't commenting on that. bridge, bay, hills, victorian architecture, trans america...
SF also much nicer driving around the city imo, much more nature and I prefer the residential housing schemes.
If we were talking just aesthetically pleasing and beauty SF walks away on this. Chicago is just powerful, tall, monstrous a symbol of american business through the last century.

I love driving down lakeshore around 10ish when the lights are still on, listening to some tunes, possibly on a "joy" ride

A great way to relax and forget about your troubles.

If you start from Hollywood and drive down its even better. The tall buildings seem to go on forever...the city seems massive!

Chicago gets my respect for its vastness and height, but aesthetically I really don't find it attractive at all. San Francisco is more beautiful, imo.

Not gonna argue, because this is all about opinions. But I would like to try to change your mind!

I love SF to death but I have to give this one to Chicago. Chicago's skyline is very impressive. However I think SF would look funny with a massive skyline like Chicago or NY. Many people are drawn to SF because of it's natural beauty and setting. It would be kind of a shame to have monstrous buildings blocking the views of the Ocean/Bay/Hills/Mountains/Islands. SF is so gorgeous it doesn't really to an impressive skyline to standout.
