Agreed. I don't appreciate an adopted accent, and I find that one irritating. I have a couple of gay friends who talk normal, just like they did before they ever came out. And I've witnessed the evolution in others and am not a fan of the exaggerated tones and lisping.

the NY accent does sound tough but the bad thing is it makes the females sound too macho.

Have limited travel experience. However I worked at a university in St. Louis for many years and had the opportunity to speak with students from all over the country as well as other countries. I must admit that all accents are intriguing to me. In the Midwest there are limited accents. Most will be associated with people new to the area, bringing with them accents from thier previous locations.

As far as the Southern accents, such as Georgian, Alabamian, I am fascinated by them. I spoke with a Georgia Trooper once and could have listened to him for hours. No, no ticket, just an exchange of information.

Sorry about your family. You were the one who stated

My response is very simple. No, you cannot ' nearly guarantee the person is a pretentious jerk' based on something like a regional accent. Thinking otherwise is really quite absurd, and I stand firmly by that assertion. Naturally, you have the right to believe and espouse absurd things, just as the rest of us have the right to call you on it.

The really funny thing about the lack of love shown for the Boston accent is the fact that, along with my physical attractiveness, it has gotten me laid quite a few times. It even helped me get my Michigan-born wife.

I'm surprised at about the Boston accent as well. I've always quite liked it, but then again, I associate it with a lot of people who are very important to me (Mom, Grandmother, etc)
