The Inc 5000 is a list released every year of the 5000 fastest growing companies in the US. I created something to add up the number of entries by location. Crazy how Alpharetta, a suburb about 15-20 miles north of DT Atlanta has almost half as much as Atlanta itself.

Absolutely. It would be interesting to find other cities like that. For example, Irvine, CA with 43 while Los Angeles has 42. Reston, VA with 33 while DC has 42. Plano has 25 while Dallas has 43. It would be interesting to also do a per 100k type of calculation.

Phoenix and Scottsdale is another good example. It would be cool to see someone with ambitioun combine and add them up.

Yeah, I've started to. There's over 1500 locations total for 2013 so I have to see if there's a file out there which relates all cities in the US to an MSA, if they're in one.

My company is on this list (LA based). I did the PR for it in late 2013.

Not really surprising considering most of these cities are over 100 sq miles in size.

I'd be more interested in seeing a list based on metro area.

Who at Inc. edited this? I spotted so many mistakes. Looks like they're only going by city limits, but they misrepresent some of Los Angeles' neighborhoods as separate municipalities, when they are in fact part of the city of Los Angeles. There ought to be 19 more added to your list for LA, which moves it up to #8.

#181 TNH Pharmacy is listed under "Van Nuys" - Van Nuys is a district and neighborhood of LA.
#204 AudioMicro is listed under "Sherman Oaks" - Sherman Oaks is a neighborhood of LA.
#210 Landmark Network is listed under "Sherman Oaks" - again, see above.
#604 Zambezi is listed under "Venice" - Venice is a neighborhood of LA.
#740 Elite Merchant Solutions is listed under "Van Nuys" - again, see above.
#751 SADA Systems is listed under "N. Hollywood" - North Hollywood is a neighborhood of LA.
#920 Advantage Capital Funds is listed under "Van Nuys" - again, see above.
#1042 uSamp is listed under "Encino" - Encino is a neighborhood of LA.
#1681 Phone Power is listed under "Winnetka" - Winnetka is a neighborhood of LA
#1842 Integrated Media Technologies is listed under "N. Hollywood" - again, see above.
#1858 FreshLunches is listed under "Northridge" - Northridge is a neighborhood of LA.
#2584 SafeSoft Solution is listed under "Woodland Hills" - Woodland Hills is a neighborhood of LA.
#3826 Net2EZ is listed under "Century City" - Century City is a district of LA.
#3096 Lenny & Larry's is listed under "Northridge" - again, see above.
#3112 Cal Net Technology Group is listed under "Chatsworth" - Chatsworth is a neighborhood of LA.
#4005 Flashing Blinking Lights is listed under "Sun Valley" - Sun Valley is a neighborhood of LA.
#4281 GNW-Evergreen Insurance Services is listed under "Encino" - again, see above.
#4392 Office Xpress is listed under "Canoga Park" - Canoga Park is a neighborhood of LA.
#4851 NorthStar Moving is listed under "Chatsworth" - again, see above.

2. Chicago, IL | 93 companies
3. Austin, TX | 90 companies
4. Houston, TX | 77 companies

9. Seattle, WA | 53 companies

A metro area list would definitely be a better representation, especially for a place like LA because I see many companies within LA County like Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Burbank, Pasadena, Culver City, etc, etc listed, not to mention all the ones in Orange County.
